As the beam was still fixed on north I decided to do a single band effort on 80m.
But with what goal? I have 97 countries confirmed using LotW (more with cards) and I hoped to work at least 3 more new LotW countries this weekend. I also wanted a contest goal, so I looked at last years results. The 80m only entrants made very high scores last years. With 10/15 full open it is unlikely that there will be the same activity as last years on 80m, so it will be difficult to repeat that.
I started with a goal of 1000 qso's.
An overview of the QSO's per hour:
After the first night I had 674 QSO;s. Around 05 UTC on the second night I had 1000 QSO's. Rates were going down as expected. The last evening I had low rates but some new multipliers came back to my cq.
Most of the time I did run and made some S&P contacts.
Top 5 countries: USA (293), Germany (173), EU Russia (117), Ukraine (77) and Czech Rep. (72). Top 5 zones:14 (367), 15 (338), 16 (218), 5 (204) and 4 (115).
Worked several new countries so overall a good weekend.
Equipment: K3, Alpha 374A, Delta Loop direction NW (USA) SE, HF9V. Beverage 200m direction USA.
In the weekend of May 28 and 29, 2011 I used the station of PI4Z to pariticipate in the CQ WPX CW contest. 2 weeks ago the support tower for the 80m delta loop and 160m toploaded vertical was damaged. Due to Dayton Hamvention visit and a business trip it was difficult to repair the tower. The decision was made to make it a limited 40, 20, 15 and 10 effort. As always there need to be a goal in a contest. After looking at the results of last year of the Dutch participants, I decided to just make 1000 QSO's over the 2 days.
I started around 03Z and stopped around 13Z to do some other things. After dinner around 16Z I returned to find out that conditions were degraded. Luckily there was some short skip operation on 10m possible what resulted in a nice run.of over 100 QSO's around 19Z. After making some QSO's on 15, 20 and 40 I finally decided to go home and have some sleep at 0Z. Results of the first day: 990 QSO's. Almost the goal of the full weekend!
After a good night of sleep I decided to revise my goal. I did not pariticipate in 2010, but in 2009 I made 1132 QSO's with 1.2M points. Operating time was also limited that year, just 22 hours. In 2010 the highest Dutch rank was 1.53M points. So I set the new goal to at least 1.2M points, but 1.53M points would nice. At 13Z I started on 10 and 15 looking for some multipliers and 3-point (DX) QSO's. Not a lot to work there, but on 20m I switched between running and S&P which resulted in almost 300 QSO's. Around 20:30Z I moved to 40m and made some 85 QSO's. At 21:30Z I stopped. Result 1412 QSO's with a total of 1,831,690 points. Total operating time 25 hours.
